The Digital Matrix News: Microsoft Is On The Move, For Your Wallet

Two bits of news everyone.  If you haven’t seen it yet, Microsoft is increasing the price of Xbox live! That’s right, bend over.  It has been announced by Microsoft that come November 1, Xbox Live will get a price increase. Xbox 360 players in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, and Mexico will now pay more for their subscriptions.  Prices are set to increase for the three-month and one-month subscriptions as well. The twelve month subscription fee for Xbox Live Gold will go up to $59.99, while the three-month and one-month Gold subscription fees will increase to $24.99 and $9.99.

A Microsoft spokesperson explained the rise in the subscription for Xbox Live. “Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry. However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.”

You know what? Eat a dick.  If Xbox live is so great and worth what I’m paying to play, why the hell is my beloved Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 still plagued with modders and hackers?  It’s been almost a year since its release.  Player records have been destroyed, lost, or modified since January 2010 and nothing has changed.  Who’s responsible?  Microsoft? Activision?  Who knows, they aren’t telling. Meanwhile, we are playing on peer-to-peer servers instead of dedicated servers that constantly crash or swap between three different hosts during one regular death match.  Where is my money going to?  Certainly not any of these “enhancements” Microsoft claims to have. Bring me a live execution of the people that hack games and screw up everyone’s hard earned statistics and then we’ll talk about that 60$

In other news, Microsoft will also be releasing a newly redesigned Xbox 360 controller.  Changes include grey A, B, X and Y button and the analog sticks have a rigidly indented surface. The controller itself is silver instead of white, with black accents replacing the grey.  Fans of fighting games like Street Fighter will be happy to hear that the directional pad can be raised up by twisting it.  This will enable purists the ease and grace of a fighting controller, with the quality of an official product.  It will only be available in the new Play & Charge kit that is expected to reach US stores on November 9 for $64.99.  But damn is it sexy looking.
