Hey, Final Fantasy fans! I know we’re still waiting for XIII, but details and news about the second MMO game in the series, XIV, are already trickling in via the official website.
You can radically change your game play style on the fly by equipping different pieces of equipment. Square Enix uses an example character, Leeroy (yes…I know…) to show how switching to a different weapon actually changes your class. Leeroy is a low-level gladiator, a mid-level fisherman, a mid-level blacksmith, and a high level thaumaturge. In this way, you might not have to make new characters to try playing lower-level content if you only have a high-level character.
There’s also more screenies. The CGI cut-scenes look very nice, as one would expect of Square Enix. More impressive are the screenies of in-game footage. I don’t like MMOs, but can’t help but admire the artistic value found in the loving details of these images.
It looks like the game is set in a time of uneasy peace after a disastrous war, ripe for freelancers to make their way int he world. The beast tribes are still causing trouble with the primals they summoned long ago, the Garlean Empire could attempt a takeover at any time, and there’s some new mysterious power called ‘Echo’ that allows people to tap into the consciousness of others. To find out more, check out the website!
Final Fantasy XIV will be released sometime next year (2010) world-wide, with four language options – Japanese, English, German, and French. They are still accepting Beta test applications, so if this looks appealing, check it out!
